How my writing skills have changed

It’s great that we live in the era of technology nowadays, because there have been many things which I’ve learned this year using my computer and smartphone and I’ve successfully implemented them into my projects and essays, making them more structuralized and logical.     First things first, I’ve had a wonderful opportunity to improve my writing skills this year. Writing has always been my weak side as I considered the handwriting method to be an obsolete one. Thus, such an essential aspect of the English language didn’t elicit my interest at all and that is why I hated writing huge essays. However, everything changed when it was announced that I would work on my writing skills using technology. I realized then how great, fast and convenient it would be to study in such an entertaining way! Secondly, this course allows me to put a lot of words that I’ve previously learned into practice!   The method of memorizing lexis by using it in essays results in enriching my...

Essay 1

Nowadays, the global situation has changed completely: from our daily habits and routine to our ways and methods of working, studying, and simply ambling along the street. COVID-19 has locked the majority of the population in homes. Now that the planet has undergone such a dramatic issue, lots of other problems, unfortunately, have become overshadowed and Africa is not an exception. To begin with, the problem the world faces today has caused lots of governments to act on impulse, and thus chaos has ensued. The African continent has always been the poorest area on our planet which sanitation level has been the lowest one. Deceases, poverty and destitution are the factors which Africa is associated with by many people. However, the recent events have shown that the situation is going to worsen even more as employees are already being laid off because of the global shutdown. Consequently, a great number of people are at loss, because their governments can’t sustain the imploding ec...

My Dream Job

A disclaimer: the essay has nothing to do with me in real life. I've just made it all up. Hope you will understand my choice to arrange things this way.  Nowadays there are lots of huge and successful companies and corporations which a great number of young people strive to work for. While some people truly love medicine, history or sport, others find it fascinating to work in IT. However, all the spheres mentioned above have nothing to do with my preferences and dreams.  To begin with, I've always been interested in space. Not only did I watch lots of scientific films and series related to it when I was a child, but also I had plenty of magazines on this topic. Stars, galaxies and even aliens have always aroused my interest. That is why I decided to be an astronaut a long time ago. Now that I've grown up, I can see that this occupation has many advantages which I am satisfied with a lot.  Firstly, generally, this job is very important in terms of explor...

Speaking on using voice mails

Nowadays it’s hard to imagine someone who records voice mails and, moreover, uses them on a regular basis. It sounds preposterous and the young generation would obviously internally poke fun at such people. And I can certainly understand them. As for me, I don’t use them and neither are my groupmates or simply the people I know. No-bo-dy. I believe that if someone can’t find on the Internet the info they search for, they can alternatively ask their relatives or friends to help them with this issue. It’s just simple as that. Sorry for the shortness of my sentences, but answering about the Internet is like using it: quick and simple. I don’t worry at all about contacting someone via the methods listed above. The only thing that confuses me is recording a voice mail. I am convinced that trying to communicate with someone (especially with a stranger) via voice mail is not the best option to choose. There are lots of social media platforms as VK, WhatsApp, Telegram and so on. It’s poss...

The Financier

The Financier I chose to read a novel 'The Financier' written by Theodore Dreiser. Honestly, I had a choice to make: to read Martin Eden (the book which I had already read in Russian) or to read the Financier which was  completely new  book to me. I decided to give it a go and start reading the Financier. It's important to mention that I enjoy reading such books as they encourage their readers to act like the main characters, to achieve their own success through constant struggles and adversities. The book cover doesn't contain a lot of info about the plot. It only briefly tells a reader about the author(1). 'The Financier' is based on real-life of streetcar tycoon whose real name was Charles Yerkes.  I reckon the main theme of the book is competition or, to put it in another way, a financial war. It symbolizes Frank's determination in gaining his goals and his desire to have an upper hand over everyone competing with him. He wants total ...

YouTube video I liked

I spend quite a considerable amount time watching lots of videos on YouTube every day. What I like most is fighting, politics, languages and cyber sport or videogames (Cs:GO in particular). That is why I found this video to be entertaining and ludicrous at the same time. It's devoted to the Ukrainian Cs:GO player who's nickname is 'S1mple'.The team he is in is called Na'Vi (Natus Vincere which can be translated from Latin as Born to Win). He is currently ranked second in terms of best players in the world. In fact, he is still considered to be the best player if we do not take into account his second place in the list of best players of 2019. However, he was the best in 2017 and since that time he'd been retaining his place by showing absolutely insane playing skills for 2 successive years.Even in 2019, he inhumanly performed and shocked moment by moment the audience by making countless highlights. But,unfortunately, his team was not successful enough to win lo...

A story

Patriots Invade England It's a breezy summer evening in Manchester A charming woman is sitting at a bar. Rachel is the beautiful name that her parents thought would suit her best. She wears a dark red blouse with a black skirt. She's dressed officially. After having a hard day at her office she's decided not to resist her temptation and come over to the bar which is the nearest one to her workplace. Sitting at the table alone she is sipping her tequila. Suddenly, her attention is drawn to a man who has just come in. He glimpes at her while he is going to the bar. It seemed to Rachel that she's been unconscious for just a second as if a lightning has stricken her. The feeling is known to all of us: love. Being astute in life, she can observe his forceful and shrewd but at the same time noble and courageous temper. Wide grey eyes fulfill his portrait. She freezes realizing he is the one she's always been looking for. The man's name is Barat. It only took him...

Semester work assignment #2

“India moon mission: Vikram lunar lander found on surface” Recently, India’s lunar lander made an attempt to approach the Moon in order to observe and if possible collect some samples of ice water. Considering the fact that it was the country’s second space campaign mission to the Moon, no wonder that it attracted a lot of attention from varies countries around the world because if water deposits had been found and cosmonauts had reached them, it could have helped science a lot. To begin with, although the mission had experienced a failure, nevertheless, it caused lots of countries to prove the existence of water deposits by launching their own space programmes. According to the fact that water presence is connected with life, it could’ve solved the demographic problem the Earth is facing nowadays. For example, we could build space stations on the Moon at first and then find lots of other much bigger and more convenient planets to live on. Moreover, India is now the fourth country...

Semester work assignment #1

Russia-Ukraine: tentative progress at first talks for three years The topic I’ve chosen is connected to the Russian-Ukrainian issue that’s been unresolved for 5 years since the Crimea incident. The question is very controversial and the relationships between the two countries were tense, and situation still has not changed so far these days. I'd like to consider two periods in its development: what happened before the meeting and after it. It is necessary to say a few words about a certain period importance of this event The majority of European countries and the USA still consider Russian annexation of Crimea as an illegal action towards Ukraine. As an immediate response to Russia, lots of them imposed their sanctions on the Russian Federation which then resulted in the deterioration of the situation.  Thus, Russia was expelled from the G8 for such inappropriate behavior which led to the rapid decrease in influence of the country on the world stage. In addition, in 2014...

1 . Cousteau said that the Antarctic is an important area on our planet which contains the largest amount of ice on Earth. Ice itself creates/makes a balance between the cold ocean water and the warm tropic water by letting the cold ocean water cool the warmer one and, thus, preventing the temperature from either going up or down. But nowadays, it's getting harder to find this naturally created equilibrium because of the human's factor. [ "Captain Cousteau," Audubon (May 1990):17.] 2.The twentieth was the period in the USA which lots of people symbolize with forbidden usage of alcohol and the increase of crimes committed which police could do nothing at all for a while.  It was also the time that represented the new era of music - jazz which had rapidly become known not only in America, but worldwide as well. Such prominent people as Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong, and Count Basie nowadays are considered to be the real legends and their names refle...

Post-6

Chinese people tend to forget characters throughout their lives because of technological progress: mobile phones, laptops, Ipads, etc. According to the video , not only can’t older people write down some characters, but also lots of teenagers find it difficult to remember such widely used characters as, for example, a tooth paste, obscene, etc. In my opinion, it’s becoming a national problem in China. Nowadays, there are lots of surveys in China that draw people’s attention to characters and their remembrance. To begin with, such surveys have several goals to achieve: to show the Chinese people how the world has influenced their culture and language and what can be solved or done to prevent such problems to occur in the nearest future. For example, the number of people using laptops and gadgets has increased for the recent fifteen years and that is why the need in handwriting slightly decreases over the years. People would rather text each other in their gadgets than write somethi...

Resources for Using English

The site I'd like to share with everyone is all about listening but not a simple one. The site specializes in listening to people from different countries, thus, providing a listener with the opportunity to differenciate the accents of some speakers. For example, we can turn on a conversation where one of the interlocutors can be from Sydney and the other one from Edinburgh. So, the site creates a very natural atmosphere where a person becomes completely involved into listening to different accents as if it is happening in real life. We can choose seven options of difficulty depending on the level of a listener. I do recommend everyone to challenge themselves by reaching the last level which is the toughest one. Undoubtedly, regular listening to the audio files which,by the way, are absolutely free to use here will enhance listening skills and familiarize people with lots of accents.

Post-4 Interesting-topics for discussion

To begin with, I’d like to mention that the diversity of our thoughts depends on what we do or see to enrich our mind. So, personal preferences breed our interest in something and create a variety of topics we’d like to discuss or share. To me, there are three topics I’d like to draw attention to: cyber sport, movies, and social networks. I have chosen cyber sport because I’ve been playing computer games since I was 10. Nowadays, game industry has rapidly developed, and the number of people who are into games has also increased. So,games have played a considerable part in my life as well. On the one hand, to me, they are both enjoyment and relaxation, and, on the other hand, they helped me to get rid of some stress moments. The next thing I’d like to talk about is movies. I have a friend who is keen on movies, especially on drama films. As a result, I caught this "drama infection" from him. Thrillers and horrors are the genres I hate mostly because none of them will...

Blog#3 Room 101

In my opinion, the Room 101 must contain the World's most global problems. Hopelessness, wars, diseases. I have put this words in such an order to demonstrate how one thing breeds another.  Hopelessness. A great example of hopelessness  is Adolf Hitler. If we take a look at this historical person at a different angle, we can observe that his actions were caused by his dreams not being embodied. To put it differently, his dream to become a painter was ruined because of one failed attempt to enter the university. Consequently, failure led him to the point where he desperately tried a number of options, opportunities that life offered him. After some time,Hitler was not fully satisfied with his life's achievements which resulted in  hopelessness. Thus, the Second World War broke out. Wars. I think I don't reinvent the wheel by stating that wars are the most horrible things in the world. Wars are full of hatred, violence, cruelty, blood, famine, etc. Throughout the history...

Post-2: Blog use training

The picture I have chosen is connected with the memories I have about my journey to St-Petersburg. In particular, I mean Saint Petersburg's subway, for I have been there only once. The design that is quite unusual completely astonished me.Also, the subway is situated deeply under the ground,I mean even deeper than the Moscow subway system which amazes me. I can still recollect the moments when I had to stay there for nearly 2 minutes to get to the lowest level of the subway. In comparison to the Novosibirsk subway, it seemed to me an endless under-the-ground journey. The clip: "10 глупых вопросов СИНХРОННОМУ ПЕРЕВОДЧИКУ"  was published on September 24,2019 I have found this video extremely interesting since I am specializing in learning foreign languages. Being a simultaneous interpreter is an extremely challenging job because they must analyse the information they have received and, with the average pause of 3 words,  translate it into their native language or even...

#1 Article Summary: Swiss to auction 25 supercars seized from son of Equatorial Guinea dictator

The article "Swiss to auction 25 supercars seized from son of Equatorial Guinea dictator" written by Agence France-Presse published in the Guardian September 29,2019 is devoted to the discussion of the 25 luxury cars withdrawn from Equatorial Guinea's vice president Teodorin Obiang Nguema. The supercars are going to be sold on the following Geneva auction. Auctioneers say that the overall value of the cars amounts to $18.7m. Firstly, the author explains that the cars have been confiscated by Swiss justice because of the illegal actions connected with the financial manipulations of Obiang. However, the charges had been dismissed, but, nevertheless, the court declared that the cars had to  remain under control of the government. The author gives an example of the case ocurred in October 2017 when Obiang was accused by a Paris court of using public money in his personal interests to buy assets in France. Moreover,he also emphasizes that the vice president is notoriously known ...
