Post-2: Blog use training

The picture I have chosen is connected with the memories I have about my journey to St-Petersburg. In particular, I mean Saint Petersburg's subway, for I have been there only once. The design that is quite unusual completely astonished me.Also, the subway is situated deeply under the ground,I mean even deeper than the Moscow subway system which amazes me. I can still recollect the moments when I had to stay there for nearly 2 minutes to get to the lowest level of the subway. In comparison to the Novosibirsk subway, it seemed to me an endless under-the-ground journey.

The clip: "10 глупых вопросов СИНХРОННОМУ ПЕРЕВОДЧИКУ" was published on September 24,2019
I have found this video extremely interesting since I am specializing in learning foreign languages. Being a simultaneous interpreter is an extremely challenging job because they must analyse the information they have received and, with the average pause of 3 words,  translate it into their native language or even vice versa. This occupation requires a lot of life experience, a cold head, and an ability to quickly handle stress. Moreover, I want to point out  how the woman's speech is perfectly organized in Russian. I mean, an interpreter must know on the high level their native language as well as the second one. In my opinion, that is what makes this job even tougher to master.

  1. Nikita,

thanks for your story about your experience in St. Petersburg's metro. Even though it's rather brief, it gives your reader a chance to experience the same feelings and emotions you had when you were there. And this is what a good description should achieve.

  2. And I'd like to comment on your post about the clip with tips and advice to simultaneous interpreters. Indeed this job is very challenging and requires a profound mastery of a variety of different skills as well as very broad education. On top of which an interpreter needs to have an expert mastery of the languges. Do you agree with me and what have you done to rich this level of mastery?

  3. Natalia,
I absolutely agree with you. I personally have done nothing yet because of the time I have to spend on doing loads of homework. So, it's unlikely that I'm going to take any course on simultaneous interpreting until the following summer, and yet I have some plans in view.

The Financier

The Financier I chose to read a novel 'The Financier' written by Theodore Dreiser. Honestly, I had a choice to make: to read Martin Eden (the book which I had already read in Russian) or to read the Financier which was  completely new  book to me. I decided to give it a go and start reading the Financier. It's important to mention that I enjoy reading such books as they encourage their readers to act like the main characters, to achieve their own success through constant struggles and adversities. The book cover doesn't contain a lot of info about the plot. It only briefly tells a reader about the author(1). 'The Financier' is based on real-life of streetcar tycoon whose real name was Charles Yerkes.  I reckon the main theme of the book is competition or, to put it in another way, a financial war. It symbolizes Frank's determination in gaining his goals and his desire to have an upper hand over everyone competing with him. He wants total domination

Semester work assignment #1

Russia-Ukraine: tentative progress at first talks for three years The topic I’ve chosen is connected to the Russian-Ukrainian issue that’s been unresolved for 5 years since the Crimea incident. The question is very controversial and the relationships between the two countries were tense, and situation still has not changed so far these days. I'd like to consider two periods in its development: what happened before the meeting and after it. It is necessary to say a few words about a certain period importance of this event The majority of European countries and the USA still consider Russian annexation of Crimea as an illegal action towards Ukraine. As an immediate response to Russia, lots of them imposed their sanctions on the Russian Federation which then resulted in the deterioration of the situation.  Thus, Russia was expelled from the G8 for such inappropriate behavior which led to the rapid decrease in influence of the country on the world stage. In addition, in 2014, a m

Blog#3 Room 101

In my opinion, the Room 101 must contain the World's most global problems. Hopelessness, wars, diseases. I have put this words in such an order to demonstrate how one thing breeds another.  Hopelessness. A great example of hopelessness  is Adolf Hitler. If we take a look at this historical person at a different angle, we can observe that his actions were caused by his dreams not being embodied. To put it differently, his dream to become a painter was ruined because of one failed attempt to enter the university. Consequently, failure led him to the point where he desperately tried a number of options, opportunities that life offered him. After some time,Hitler was not fully satisfied with his life's achievements which resulted in  hopelessness. Thus, the Second World War broke out. Wars. I think I don't reinvent the wheel by stating that wars are the most horrible things in the world. Wars are full of hatred, violence, cruelty, blood, famine, etc. Throughout the history,
