A story

Patriots Invade England
It's a breezy summer evening in Manchester A charming woman is sitting at a bar. Rachel is the beautiful name that her parents thought would suit her best. She wears a dark red blouse with a black skirt. She's dressed officially. After having a hard day at her office she's decided not to resist her temptation and come over to the bar which is the nearest one to her workplace. Sitting at the table alone she is sipping her tequila. Suddenly, her attention is drawn to a man who has just come in. He glimpes at her while he is going to the bar. It seemed to Rachel that she's been unconscious for just a second as if a lightning has stricken her. The feeling is known to all of us: love. Being astute in life, she can observe his forceful and shrewd but at the same time noble and courageous temper. Wide grey eyes fulfill his portrait. She freezes realizing he is the one she's always been looking for.

The man's name is Barat. It only took him a glance to understand her intentions and her feelings towards him. After buying a rum and Coke, Barat strides across the bar holding a glass of rum in his right hand. Rachel has lowered her eyes feeling that someone is approaching her table. Her eyes are up and she now sees him sitting in front of her in his beige coat and his eyes looking right at hers.
Right at that very moment from a TV that hangs over the wall a journalist from the channel 4 is reporting a corruption story which the police forces have been involved in.
Her left ear has almost caught every word although everything still looks hazy for Rachel as Barat is examining her. She turns her head to the window.
You know what happened then. She finds herself in an unfamiliar to her flat or, that is to say, a luxurious hotel. Barat explains that he is the Russian oligarch and he can take her back to Russia with him. All she need is to say 'yes'. Barat, not waiting for her to respond to him, says Rachel can think it over for 3 days. But she agrees to go. She agrees to leave her work, to leave her parents, to leave her hometown, to leave everything. For the next 3 days they are going to live at the hotel.

Day 1. Rachel gets back to her workplace to see it for the last time. However, when she enters her office, everyone is vigorously discusing the recent story which Rachel heard yesterday. Through that fuss she hears someone shrieking about millions of pounds being siphoned off from the local government, a bunch of corruptive policemen who worked as a team to maintain money transfers to lots of countries. The investigation has almost come to an end, but the leader of the group has not been found yet. His crew has not revealed his name(even though there had been used some illegal methods of making criminals interact with investigators).
Rachel is staying right in the epicentre of this chaos wondering whether it is all a joke. However, Rachel's best friend Ann's came over clearing up the current situation. She is a reporter from a famous Manchester company working there as a half-paid intern. She explained to Rachel every detail and even such minutiae like the squad wives' names. Rachel got so interested in the story that she accidentally decided to help her friend to find out who or even what is behind it all.

Day 2. Rachel invited Ann to her luxurious room while Barat was at his work dealing with some 'business issues'. Rachel had no idea what he was talking about and, let us be true, cared nothing for them because the only wish she had was to see him coming back to her. Then she gave a call to Ann to offer her some help(although Rachel doesn't even know how she can help Ann because she is to fly from London at 9.30 p.m. tomorrow).
Ann is holding a mug full of coffee listening to Rachel's romantic story. Ann is stunned by her fortune. She is truly happy for her friend. Suddenly, Ann's eyes are looking right at the white Barat's mug. It is not though the mug that her eyes are looking at, but rather a print with some kind of an animal depicted on it. Ann squints but still it's not clear to her. She asks Rachel if she knows why an oligarch needs to take a two-pound mug with him. As Barat has already told her, he is a true patriot of his country, so the bear that is depicted on it symbolizes Russia. The next question also does not puzzle Rachel.
-"What is 'Единая Россия'?" asks Ann.
Rachel says it's a famous political party in Russia - United Russia.
- "Too patriotic even for Russians." admits Ann.
Something comes to Ann's mind.
-"I still don't get it. Why does an oligarch need to take with him such an unimportant thing?'" continues Ann.
-"He is a patriot. Seems lovely to me." replies Rachel.
At about 9 p.m. Rachel was prepared to see off her friend.
-"We'll meet tomorrow again. I'm sure it will only take us 1 day to investigate the whole case, huh?" says Rachel grinning at Ann.
-"What's that?" continues Ann.
-"That's a backpack. What's wrong with it?" answers Rachel.
-"Yeah, I see it too. But what's in there? I mean look at it. I see some letters. What are they? 'I-C-E'? It's none of my business but, Rachel, it baffles me a lot. You do not know him at all. Imagine a millionaire with a backpack with some clothes in it. Would you mind if I look at it closer?" asks Ann.
-"Well, sure you can."
- "What's that? A vest? A POLICE VEST?" yips Ann.
-"Wait. Something bigger and heavier is in there. Oh God! A bulletproof vest?" recoils Rachel.
-"There is some wrong staff going on here. You need to leave him for your own sake. Take your keys and we'll run away."
-"Ann,wait. Barat will come soon. I will find out why it's all here."
-"You must be kidding me. Time is running. We might not have it soon at all." yells Ann.
-"What's up,girls?"
They look at the door. Barat is standing there. His coat he wore today was superseded by a black jacket. Barat is wearing a black cap. He is holding a gun. Ann and Rachel are totally shocked. Fear absorbed both of them. Rachel's charm in a second has faded away. Her face is distorted with great fear. She can neither move nor say anything.
-"Rachel, we don't have time at all. I'll explain to you everything when we are safe. As for now, go with me and don't ask questions. There is a jet that is waiting for us. We won't have second chance. Just run with me."
Day 3 won't happen. They ran away successfully.Barat worked for the Russian government transferring money to his favourite political party and thus robbed English people. What a patriotic person he is!

  1. He glimpes at her while going to the bar: "going" is not quite right here; maybe, "walking"; I'd advise you to check the thesaurus (thesaurus.com). It has lists of synonyms with examples. I think it can help you choose a more expressive word.
*Her eyes up: link verb missing
    .

The feeling is known to all of us - love: "dash" is used in Russian in this case; in English ";" is used
The case is almost investigated > the investigation has almost come to an end

The Financier

The Financier I chose to read a novel 'The Financier' written by Theodore Dreiser. Honestly, I had a choice to make: to read Martin Eden (the book which I had already read in Russian) or to read the Financier which was  completely new  book to me. I decided to give it a go and start reading the Financier. It's important to mention that I enjoy reading such books as they encourage their readers to act like the main characters, to achieve their own success through constant struggles and adversities. The book cover doesn't contain a lot of info about the plot. It only briefly tells a reader about the author(1). 'The Financier' is based on real-life of streetcar tycoon whose real name was Charles Yerkes.  I reckon the main theme of the book is competition or, to put it in another way, a financial war. It symbolizes Frank's determination in gaining his goals and his desire to have an upper hand over everyone competing with him. He wants total domination

Semester work assignment #1

Russia-Ukraine: tentative progress at first talks for three years The topic I’ve chosen is connected to the Russian-Ukrainian issue that’s been unresolved for 5 years since the Crimea incident. The question is very controversial and the relationships between the two countries were tense, and situation still has not changed so far these days. I'd like to consider two periods in its development: what happened before the meeting and after it. It is necessary to say a few words about a certain period importance of this event The majority of European countries and the USA still consider Russian annexation of Crimea as an illegal action towards Ukraine. As an immediate response to Russia, lots of them imposed their sanctions on the Russian Federation which then resulted in the deterioration of the situation.  Thus, Russia was expelled from the G8 for such inappropriate behavior which led to the rapid decrease in influence of the country on the world stage. In addition, in 2014, a m

Blog#3 Room 101

In my opinion, the Room 101 must contain the World's most global problems. Hopelessness, wars, diseases. I have put this words in such an order to demonstrate how one thing breeds another.  Hopelessness. A great example of hopelessness  is Adolf Hitler. If we take a look at this historical person at a different angle, we can observe that his actions were caused by his dreams not being embodied. To put it differently, his dream to become a painter was ruined because of one failed attempt to enter the university. Consequently, failure led him to the point where he desperately tried a number of options, opportunities that life offered him. After some time,Hitler was not fully satisfied with his life's achievements which resulted in  hopelessness. Thus, the Second World War broke out. Wars. I think I don't reinvent the wheel by stating that wars are the most horrible things in the world. Wars are full of hatred, violence, cruelty, blood, famine, etc. Throughout the history,
