The Financier

The Financier
I chose to read a novel 'The Financier' written by Theodore Dreiser. Honestly, I had a choice to make: to read Martin Eden (the book which I had already read in Russian) or to read the Financier which was completely new book to me. I decided to give it a go and start reading the Financier. It's important to mention that I enjoy reading such books as they encourage their readers to act like the main characters, to achieve their own success through constant struggles and adversities.
The book cover doesn't contain a lot of info about the plot. It only briefly tells a reader about the author(1). 'The Financier' is based on real-life of streetcar tycoon whose real name was Charles Yerkes.  I reckon the main theme of the book is competition or, to put it in another way, a financial war. It symbolizes Frank's determination in gaining his goals and his desire to have an upper hand over everyone competing with him. He wants total domination in streetcar business. Because of the subtlety of his mind,Frank knew how to effectively deal with finance and make money out of nothing since he was a teenager. It was a child's play to Cowperwood to cope with lots of financial abstrusities, and he already ran his own company by the age of 26.
I suppose my peers would find this book interesting and engaging because it demonstrates to the audience that life itself is a big and constant struggle. The main character shows us the importnace of not giving up when everything seems to be hopeless. Frank is the real example(2)of a warrior who encourages everyone to get back on their feet after setbacks.

    1. You mean to the list of references, don't you? Because your post is one page:)

    2. And about the references: it's not enough to provide the link to the resource; this is what you do in the body of your writing. In the end of your work you need to add full reference details: there is a post in the blog about it at

      https://acdemicwriting18825.blogspot.com/2019/12/referencing.html

As you can see, it was published back in December last year.

Please, remember to ADD REFERENCES TO YOUR POSTS! You do remember that without this information you are in danger of plagiarising, don't you?

  4. The thing is I took the information from the Wikipedia, so it's not just an excerpt from a particular author, it's rather taken from the source that can be added by anyone. Thus, my question is: could you please tell me what I have to do in such cases?

1 . Cousteau said that the Antarctic is an important area on our planet which contains the largest amount of ice on Earth. Ice itself creates/makes a balance between the cold ocean water and the warm tropic water by letting the cold ocean water cool the warmer one and, thus, preventing the temperature from either going up or down. But nowadays, it's getting harder to find this naturally created equilibrium because of the human's factor. Post-4 Interesting-topics for discussion

To begin with, I’d like to mention that the diversity of our thoughts depends on what we do or see to enrich our mind. So, personal preferences breed our interest in something and create a variety of topics we’d like to discuss or share. To me, there are three topics I’d like to draw attention to: cyber sport, movies, and social networks. I have chosen cyber sport because I’ve been playing computer games since I was 10. Nowadays, game industry has rapidly developed, and the number of people who are into games has also increased. So,games have played a considerable part in my life as well. On the one hand, to me, they are both enjoyment and relaxation, and, on the other hand, they helped me to get rid of some stress moments. The next thing I’d like to talk about is movies. I have a friend who is keen on movies, especially on drama films. As a result, I caught this "drama infection" from him. Thrillers and horrors are the genres I hate mostly because none of them will...

Chinese people tend to forget characters throughout their lives because of technological progress: mobile phones, laptops, Ipads, etc. According to the video , not only can’t older people write down some characters, but also lots of teenagers find it difficult to remember such widely used characters as, for example, a tooth paste, obscene, etc. In my opinion, it’s becoming a national problem in China. Nowadays, there are lots of surveys in China that draw people’s attention to characters and their remembrance. To begin with, such surveys have several goals to achieve: to show the Chinese people how the world has influenced their culture and language and what can be solved or done to prevent such problems to occur in the nearest future. For example, the number of people using laptops and gadgets has increased for the recent fifteen years and that is why the need in handwriting slightly decreases over the years. People would rather text each other in their gadgets than write somethi...
